Step 4 – Critical Proofing
If you have tried to print your art yourself, you are well aware that testing (proofing) is required on every image. This can be a frustrating process without media profiling and colour management software. At Fidelis we employ the lastest in technology to limit the number of tests and the time it takes to achive your desired results. We also maintain a selection of media that has been profiled and tested in advance of your project—this saves you time and money.
Initial tests (test strips) and sometimes larger proofs are usually done in advance of your arrival—and in the case of Fidelis—they are included in the cost of your print. Beware of other printmakers who will charge for these proofs in addition to your print costs!
If you are an out of town client and making a distance trip into our studio, please give us advance warning and ask us to block time to do your testing while you wait (or run another errand). We will do our very best to accommodate your travel schedule so that an additional trip is not needed.
If you are supplying a digital file for reproduction or we are working from your original negative, please provide a hard copy print for colour/density reference. Oversize artworks, supplied files and cross-processed negatives may require extensive proofing, be sure to ask if you should budget for extra system time and additional (or full size) proofs.
