Captain Vancouver Collection
In Reflection
The continuing thrust into the immense complexity of the Northwest Coast took the two ships to northward. Chatham directed her attention toward the mainland and Knight’s Inlet, while Discovery proceeded to chart Fife Channel and await the prearranged arrival of her confederate at Deep Sea Bluff. Together, they explored Simoon Sound and anchored at the entrance to the eerie backwater of O’Brien Bay. Caught here in reflection, they pondered the awe-inspiring vastness, isolation and alienation they experienced in this wilderness so far from their home.
